Responding In Faith

Our journey through life, adoption, home schooling and responding in faith

Please Pray, We are Going Independent

After many long conversations with each other and with others who have and are adopting in Liberia, Russ and I have decided to go at the rest of our adoption independently.  We have contacted PLAN and cancelled our contract and our $3800.00.  ACFI has a staff that is doing all the work towards the adoption on the Liberian side.  PLAN was just kind of the middle man for us and really wasn’t doing anything that we couldn’t do…contact the staff in Liberia.  Basically, we were doing all the work as far as paper work, travel arrangements, etc.  So we have decided that financially this would be the best option.  We also felt like we may be able to get the boys home quicker if we were more proactive in the process.

PLEASE PRAY!!!  We need prayers around the clock!  We need prayers for the legal staff in Liberia!  We need prayers that the birth family will be found immediately!  We need prayers for our boys!  Please pray that their bellies are full, that God is putting a protective shield around them and that God is protecting their precious spirits!  Pray for the other families that are adopting through ACFI that they will be able to bring their children home safely.  Finally, pray for all the children in the orphanage!  I can not encourage you enough to put this in your daily prayers.

The Lord is good and I know He will bring our boys home safely.  Where two or more gather and pray in agreement, God will move!  I truly believe this.  Jeremiah 32:27, “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind.  Is anything too hard for me?”  We hold our hope in God as an anchor for our souls, firm and secure (Hebrews 6:19).  We must continue to persevere.  “So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.  You need to persever so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised,” (Hebrews 10:35-36).  “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.  This is what the ancients were commended for,” (Hebrews 11:1-2).  Please pray and encourage us in this process.  God has called us to bring our boys home.  He did not promise that the road would be easy, but that we must have faith and believe in what He has promised.  Please pray that we will not be discouraged, but encouraged as we seek the will of God.  Pray that Satan will not enter our hearts into discouragement, but that God will give us the strength to keep pressing forward.  Pray that any barriers will be removed and that the reward at the end of finish line becomes very visible.

Thank you from the bottoms of our hearts for your continued support through prayers as we continue to both respond and walk in faith!  May God bless you!

  1. Hello Sonya :)

My mom and dad are in Liberia as missionaries. When they left we asked them to prayerfully keep their eyes open for a young girl for us to take into our family of 5 children. We received the call today - they have been praying about a 13 year old girl named Patricia who they believe the Lord may have for us. We are prayerfully considering this and I have just today begun looking into independent adoption. I am totally unaware of what to expect or where to start, hoping to find some of that info soon. Thank you for sharing your journey here. I will pray for your boys and your family and your faith to be graciously sustained by the hand of God.

    In Christ ALONE,

    Jennfier :)
