An Encouraging Word
I have had many questions about where we came up with the idea to do our encouragement week. This is the book that helped us come up with this idea:
Parenting with Scripture by Kara Durbin.
It is a great book. It can be used in a number of different ways. It can be used for “teachable moments” with your children. For example, if your child is having difficulty with complaining, you can look up the word. There is a definition for what complaining means. Then there are scriptural references, discussion statements and a take action section.
We are going to try to incorporate a new word from the book each week. We are choosing one of the verses to memorize and we go through the discussion sections and take action sections through out the week. Today the children worked on encouragement pictures and letters to give out (can’t say to who or it will ruin the surprise!). They also have decided to prepare a meal for our pastor and his wife. (We are waiting on a response for the date!). The kids are working on the menu and ways that they can be encouraging for our pastor and his wife. Here are some pictures from their morning activity. It went really well!

Our memory verse for the week!

Hannah very focused on her work.

Handsome Samuel!

Joel in the paint.

Austin…he is doing so well right now! He has really been focusing well! Praise the Lord!

All the kids around the school table.

Everyone working hard.

This picture wasn’t from our activity today, but I just thought it was encouraging to see everyone is bonding so well! My two babies…my baby boy and my baby girl! So sweet!
It has been fun working towards encouraging everyone to encourage one another. The kids are doing great. This has been a great topical study for the entire family!

Hi Sonya -
I love reading all about the “going-ons” in your home! It is so uplifting to see how awesome God is and to see Him working through you and Russell in how your parent and love your children. What great role models you both are, not only for your children, but for other people too. Maybe you two should write a book! (HINT, HINT!)
Give everyone hugs for us! Love you guys!
