Results For Jeremiah

Well, we took Jeremiah to a doctor in Charlotte who specializes in infectious disease, Dr. Amina Ahmed.   Dr. Ahmed works at Levine Children’s Hospital.  She has seen many of the Liberian children that have come to this area.  She ran some more blood work for Jeremiah.  We had previously been told that he had tested positive for Hep B.  Jeremiah’s body has not responded to the Hep B vaccine.  His body is not building the necessary antibodies against the virus.  His viral count was 64 million plus.  At this point we are not sure if he is considered Active Chronic Hep B, Chronic Hep B, or Acute Hep B.  We will be taking him to a liver specialist in a couple of months.  At that point we will have his liver enzymes checked again.  Right now his liver is just slightly inflamed.

We also found out that both Joel and Samuel had Hep B but were able to build up antibodies for their bodies to fight it off.  They probably acquired this at birth from their birth mother.  But the good thing for them is that they have natural immunity now.

We have had mixed responses to Jeremiah’s diagnosis.  If you read up on Hep B, you will see that there is no danger in allowing Jeremiah to be your friend.  If you are concerned, you can easily go get the vaccine which consists of a series of 3 shots.    Most children are vaccinated against Hep B.  I believe the vaccines started in the early 1980’s.  You will not catch it from shaking his hand, hugging him, etc.  Hopefully, most people will be open minded to this.  Most people probably run into people with Hep B out in the world all the time and don’t even know it.  I do realize that some people may be scared they may catch something from my son.  Please don’t worry.  Read up on it and educate yourself.  Don’t discriminate against our family due to lack of education.

We will continue to pray that God will heal our child.  We know that He is watching over our precious Jeremiah.  He is a beautiful little boy.  God has big plans for this young man.  Watch out world!!  I love Jeremiah with all my heart and I am so happy that he is a part of our big, beautiful family!!
