Ok. For any of you who have been to North Carolina, you know the summers are hot and humid. The air doesn’t seem to move a whole lot unless there is a storm approaching. Well, imagine one of those lazy, hot summers without water, without air conditioning and ten children who just “can’t survive!” What do you get? Our house!
Yesterday our water was fading in and out. As the day went on, the water pressure kept decreasing until we eventually had none. Our heating and air are on a geo thermo system. Thus, we have no air conditioning. We can’t flush the toilets (Imagine that with 16 people in a house!!). We can’t do laundry. We can’t wash the dishes. The freezer is no longer making ice. No showers. UHG! Either our well has run dry or our pump is out. Hopefully today we will get some answers.
I feel as if I am more thirsty now then ever before. I want to go to the sink and fill my cup up with fresh water. No such luck. But as my physical body yearns to quench my thirst with water, my spiritual body is like a cup running over!
I am reminded of the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman. Jesus had requested a drink of water from the Samaritan woman. The Samaritan woman questions Jesus on how He can ask her of such a thing since He is a Jew and she a Samaritan.
Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
“Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it Himself, as did also his sons and his flocks and herds?”
Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:9-14
Oh, I have tasted the living water that Jesus is speaking of to the Samaritan woman. It is the only thing that will quench the thirst of our souls! Jesus fills that hole in our hearts that so many of us walk around with until we experience Jesus. It is that drink of eternal life that gives us purpose and meaning in our lives. You begin to walk in a new light and see life through different eyes.
I challenge you today, if you haven’t drank from the cup of Jesus, to seek Him out. He will not walk through the door of your heart until you invite Him in. God allows us to make that choice. Allow Jesus to bubble up in your soul.
I used to sing this song at vacation bible school when I was a kid:
Its bubbling. Its bubbling. Its bubbling in my soul. There’s singing. And laughing. Since Jesus made me whole. Folks don’t understand it. Nor can I keep it quiet. Its bubbling, bubbling, bubbling, bubbling, bubbling day and night.
That is the image of the “spring of water welling up to eternal life.” Even as I young child I learned about this. But just like so many things in life, we hear it in one ear and it goes out the other. Many years I walked around knowing who Jesus was, but not ever really drinking from His cup of living water. For some it is an over night thing; for others it is a process. A process of seeing everything else in life fail and then realizing that there is only one way to turn.
If your soul is quenching something more, drink from the cup of Jesus. Allow Him to bubble up and over in your soul. Allow Jesus to make you whole. The world may say that you are going against the grain, but in your spirit, that void in your life that you have been experiencing, will go away. Their is a purpose for your life. Jesus will show you the way.
Lord, I thank You for the drink of eternal life…the living water that You offer each of us. I pray that others too will experience the bubbling over of their souls! I thank You that I need not thirst any longer. I thank You for growing in me. I thank You for showing me my purpose in this life. I love being able to serve You in whatever capacity that You have for me. Yes, Lord. I say yes to You!

Hi Sonya!
I feel for you in this hot, humid weather with no A/C
or water! Hopefully it will be fixed soon. Last week
Denise and her husband and daughter came to visit for
a few days. They camped at Falls Lake (a state park
near Raleigh)!! Can you imagine camping in NC in July!!??
I enjoy the pictures of the kids. Did the girls legally
change their names? I was just wondering. Let me know
how it works out with your water.
Love,
Brenda
